No More Weekends

punchclock.jpgSo this was my final time steering the Deadspin zeppelin as far off course as possible on the weekends. (Occasionally, that happened.) And looking back … Jesus Christ, I wrote a lot of crap.

About 13 months ago, I was asked to be one of a handful of bloggers to replace MJD in that very role, which was a rather daunting legacy to follow. I remember the scads of readers and commenters who were sad to see him go. Then I go and superglue an “okay, people this is my last weekend” line on my final post, and then all of a sudden … I’ve got all these people who are sad to see me go, or something. Now I’m no fan of the Redlasso video player. The dern thing usually locks up Firefox for 30 seconds whenever I access a website that has it on there. But it’s the only way I’m able to share the most cerebral moment from Tim McCarver’s broadcast of the All-Star Game on Tuesday, the live blog of which I believe I’m fully recovered from.

patrickinpot.jpgI’ve been called many things. This is a new one, though, regarding the Dan Patrick move to Sports Illustrated and the Rick Reilly hop over to ESPN:

Minutes after the Patrick-for-Reilly switch was announced, one of the merrymakers over at the Web site Deadspin quipped that ESPN had filled its “smart-alecky, middle-aged white guy quota.”

I wonder who that fellow was? He sure sounds like a guy who would make people merry. Moreover, I want to know which guy in that illustration is the merrymaker. Is it the yellow shirt-black pants combo? That seems like merry outfit to me.
