Favre Trade Prevents Indian Giving

Finally, some levity in this Brett Favre ongoing story.

Last night we all found out about the Favre-to-Jets trade, seeing the “JET FAVRE” headline from a mile away. Last I heard, the Jets gave up just a 4th round pick. But today I found out what the specifics were, and one’s just hilarious.

As of today, the Packers get a 4th round pick. But:

• It becomes a 3rd rounder if Favre takes 50 percent of the Jets’ snaps.
• It becomes a 2nd rounder if Favre takes 70 percent of the snaps and the Jets make the playoffs.
• It becomes a 1st rounder if Favre takes 80 percent of the snaps and the Jets make the Super Bowl.

And the kicker:

• It becomes three first round picks if the Jets re-trade Favre to the Vikings.

Oh, fantastic. If they really did that, they’d have to super-Indian give. (Inuit-giving?) Trade Favre to someone, who in turn trades them to the Vikings. Collusion my foot.

One other fun fact: I checked to see if New York had #4 retired. They did not. In fact, only one other team has #4 retired, and it’s the other New York team, who retired Hall of Fame fullback and BC Sports Treehouse Fort co-host Tuffy Leemans.

In a completely unrelated-to-Favre but completely-related-to-retired-numbers train of thought, does anybody else think it’s bullshit that Manny Ramirez is wearing 99 in Los Angeles?
