What’s This “Losing Streak” You Speak Of?

By Matt Sussman | Jan 29, 2008 | Filed Under Basketball, Bowling Green

bgsuballstate.jpgWhen a team loses five key players on a basketball team, the following season is always slightly rougher. But the BGSU gals were actually keeping it together for quite some time, going 11-3 headed into conference play. (Three losses, if you recall, was as many as they had in 2006-07.)

Somehow I knew it wouldn’t last, as much as I didn’t want to admit it.

Conference play began just fine, winning their first four. Then came last week. A loss at home to Miami. Then came absolute decimation at Ball State, 68-47.

I saw BSU play BGSU twice last year, both pretty well, but the Falcons prevailed by double digits both times. I suppose this game in Muncie, featuring a young BGSU team whose weakness were finally exposed on all fronts, was Ball State’s way of taking out four years of frustration. (Ball State’s last win over BG was January 7, 2004.) That 2003-04 was also the last time BGSU dropped two straight MAC games.

All right. You win this round, Ball State. And you might win a potential rematch in the conference tournament. But … actually, I’m not really sure where I’m going with this.

So I’m watching some Olympic water polo match online (yes, I know) and it’s halftime. The song they picked? Why, the instrumental version of “Cotton-Eye Joe.” Not sure what’s more shocking. That they’re playing the instrumental version of “Cotton-Eye Joe,” or that someone made an instrumental version of “Cotton-Eye Joe.” Is this how all water polo matches go? NBCOlympics.com
