BGSU’s Chance To Unrank The Flash

On Saturday, as my endeavors this weekend involve a shift at Deadspin and a Toledo-Western game, the Bowling Green basketball team has the chance to dethrone the streaking Kent State, who comes to Anderson Arena.

This is the first time Kent’s ever been ranked midseason, which is freaking hard to believe, yet true. The last time BGSU hosted a ranked team was against Wally Szczerbiak’s Miami University in 2001, which was a game BG won. In fact, if you want to call this a streak — it dates back to the Clinton Venable Era and completely skips over the Kevin Netter Dynasty — they’ve won the last three home games against ranked opponents.

After their win over Saint Mary’s, Kent State vaulted to 23rd and 24th in the AP and ESPN polls. The Flashes have one loss between now and January 23, which was Toledo and the last-second dunk.

Tip-off’s at 12:30. If Bowling Green knocks them off, does it warrant a completely non-self-absorbed mention on Deadspin? You bet your sweet Brian Moten it does. BGSUFalcons.com

So I’m watching some Olympic water polo match online (yes, I know) and it’s halftime. The song they picked? Why, the instrumental version of “Cotton-Eye Joe.” Not sure what’s more shocking. That they’re playing the instrumental version of “Cotton-Eye Joe,” or that someone made an instrumental version of “Cotton-Eye Joe.” Is this how all water polo matches go? NBCOlympics.com
