When they were all through, so was I. I was tired and sick of being in pain, I looked at my watch, it was three o’clock, four hours since the incident. I drove directly to the urgent care in Gilbert and when all was said and done, I took 23 stitches to put my fingers back together and stop the bleeding. I got in my car and started to drive home, rush hour hadn’t begun yet so I was able to get home pretty quickly, if I hadn’t injured myself then I would have been at work all day and been driving home when everyone else was. I pulled into the driveway, grabbed my purse, got out of the car and went inside. Steve wouldn’t be home for another couple hours and he usually cooked on Thursday nights, this was a good thing because if it was my night, we’d be ordering takeout for sure. The doctor wrote me a prescription for a mild painkiller that I had to get filled, he said it would only hurt for just a couple days so just a few pills would get me through if I needed them. I didn’t like painkillers because they made me nauseous, I told the doctor that and he told me to make sure I took them on a full stomach or after I’ve had something substantial to eat. That was the first time I’d been to the urgent care in Gilbert and I gotta say that they were all very helpful and nice. Hopefully I won’t have any reason to go back anytime soon but if I do, I feel like I’ll be in good hands. If I would have gone to the emergency room at the hospital, it would have cost me more and I most likely would have had a much longer wait time.
I heard the front door open and I sat up, I must have dosed off. Steve walked through the door and asked me where’d I’d been all day. I reached up to rub my eyes and was reminded of the injury I had sustained, he grabbed my wrist and alarmingly, asked what happened. I told him I was sorry and that I hadn’t checked my phone for hours now, he said he was worried because I didn’t respond all day. I told him about the accident and that I went to the urgent care in Gilbert to get treated. He told me to go ahead and lay back down so he could cook us some dinner, I guess he went grocery shopping on the way home. I laid back down on the couch and turned on the television, the news was on. Steve walked back in with a couple grocery bags and told me that I was going to love what he was going to cook for us. My fingers still hurt, I responded by telling him to just hurry up so I could get some food in my stomach so I could then take a pain killer without feeling like I wanted to throw up.
